Monte d'ORU: an exceptional major summit

Hello Meet People community, I'm Julie, passionate about nature, mountains, and Corsica, so come and discover these Corsican treasures during a walk, hike... From sunrise to sunset, or just a few hours strolling through the forest discovering plants and birds, listening to stories and legends from our shepherds and learning about local and rural heritage, identifying plants and learning what they were used for, taking part in a treasure hunt or a scavenger hunt, or even a hike in a joelette with a person with reduced mobility: an extraordinary human adventure! I also organize tailor-made treks lasting several days: discovering the GR20 but also, and above all, exceptional variations and off-trail routes. And I'm in Corsica all year round, so in winter it's snowshoeing, searching for avalanche victims with a device, and descending in a cuculuge. In short, there's something for all tastes and paces, so don't hesitate!

I'll meet you at Vizzavona station in the heart of Corsica, at an altitude of 920 m, for the ascent of one of Corsica's major peaks, and not the least of them.

We start with a climb through a forest of beech and Laricio pine trees, which gradually thins out. Near the sheepfolds of Puzzatelli, we will discover the work of artist Claudio Parmiggiani, sealed in granite: "Les Mains d'Or" (The Golden Hands). A slightly technical corridor a little further on leads to the plateau at the foot of Monte d'Oro. A round trip gives access to the summit (2,389 m) with a chimney on the last part that requires a little hand-climbing, and we should be on time at the summit at 2,389 m for a picnic and a breathtaking panoramic view. The small rocky plateau then leads to the beautiful ridge overlooking Lake Oro. We will then descend via the GR20. The trees gradually return and we will walk along the Agnone to the English waterfall where we can cool off before returning to our starting point.

Distance: 16 km; Elevation gain: +1,500 m / -1,500 m; Estimated duration: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (excluding breaks).Meeting confirmed the evening before at 6 p.m. once the weather forecast has been updated): 5 a.m. at Vizzavona station (UTM32N E:511.050 / N:4664.030). Don't forget your water, your picnic, and protection from the sun, wind, cold, and rain! Depending on your level, you can climb another peak over 2,000 m on request! Before June 20, there is still snow, so you can choose between San Petrone in Castagniccia, Punta Della Cappella starting from Col de Verde, or Alcudina on the Cuscionu plateau.
