Ancient Arles: The Amphitheater and the Cryptoporticus

Start your tour at the Roman amphitheater to get a bird’s-eye view from one of the medieval towers and take in the rooftops of Arles. Then slip beneath City Hall to explore the Cryptoporticus, immense vaulted underground galleries that once supported the ancient forum.

In the Footsteps of Van Gogh

Head to the Espace Van Gogh, the former Hôtel-Dieu, whose inner courtyard and arcades have been adorned with flowers to match the painter’s famous work. Stroll through the city center to the Place du Forum, keeping an eye out for the informational signs placed along the streets at the exact spots where Van Gogh set up his easel.

LUMA Arles and the Parc des Ateliers

Head south from downtown to reach this creative campus. The tower designed by Frank Gehry is striking for its 11,000 stainless-steel panels that reflect the region’s light. The site combines modern architecture, contemporary art exhibitions, and renovated former railroad workshops.
